Which Is Longer?
Your eyes might be tricked — look closely!
Loading the fun…
What is this experiment about?
Two lines, one question: which is actually longer? Some rounds are straightforward — others use little arrow tips that can trick your eyes into seeing a length that isn't really there.
Questions kids ask
- How can two equal lines look different lengths?
- Arrow tips pointing inward or outward change how our brain reads where a line 'really' ends — it's a classic trick called the Müller-Lyer illusion.
- Is my judgment 'wrong' if I get fooled by an illusion?
- Not at all — optical illusions trick nearly everyone's brain the same way. That's exactly what makes them interesting to study.
- What's the best way to compare two lengths fairly?
- Ignoring any decorations and focusing only on where each line actually starts and ends is the most reliable way.
