Find All the Squares
Squares hiding inside squares — count them all.
Loading the fun…
What is this experiment about?
A grid can hide more squares than it first looks like — tiny 1×1 squares, medium ones made of four cells, and sometimes one giant square around them all.
Questions kids ask
- Why are there more squares than grid cells?
- Bigger squares are made by combining smaller cells — a 2×2 block of cells is itself one bigger square, on top of the small ones.
- What's a good strategy for finding them all?
- Count every size separately — first all the smallest squares, then all the medium ones, then the biggest — instead of hunting for all sizes at once.
- Does this puzzle get harder with a bigger grid?
- Yes — a bigger grid hides many more possible square sizes and positions, so the total count grows quickly.
