Circle or Not?
Is it really a circle, or just close?
Shape 1 of 6 · Score: 0
Is this shape a circle?
What is this experiment about?
Not everything round is a circle! Look closely at each shape and decide — is every point on its edge the same distance from the middle?
Questions kids ask
- What makes a shape a true circle?
- Every single point on the edge has to be exactly the same distance from the center — no exceptions.
- Is an oval a circle?
- No — an oval (or ellipse) is stretched more in one direction, so the distance from its center isn't the same all around.
- Can a shape with straight sides ever be a circle?
- No. Even a shape with many, many sides — like a hexagon or octagon — still has flat edges and corners, which a real circle never has.
